ATTO XstreamCORE® are intelligent, high-performance devices – bridges – for accelerated protocol conversion. They provide the benefits of shared SAS storage at the speeds of directly attached drives. XstreamCORE provides remote SAS storage access, enabling storage owners to disaggregate storage from server hardware using JBOD, JBOF, RAID, or tape storage. Use cases include mapping one or more individual drives to space-constrained rack or blade servers, remapping attached drives from failed servers to replacement servers, adding shared capabilities to direct attached storage, and remotely locating directly attached drives or tape devices.

ATTO XstreamCORE ET 8100T Bridge adds Ethernet connectivity to SAS Tape storage to provide remote connectivity, sharing and common services with minimal added latency.

Over the last decade, IT complexity has grown exponentially as data growth continues to strain critical infrastructure resources. The development of cloud platforms, big data, data analytics, and distributed computing has led to an increase in the number and scale of data center deployments. Extending connectivity to SAS tape beyond the rack has always been challenging as it is limited by the SAS interface. Data protection and backup has moved to a decentralized model which has resulted in the creation of silos across multiple locations. This could be within the same data center, across a campus or even at edge computing locations. ATTO XstreamCORE ET 8100T helps bridge this gap by elevating common control for backup and archive workflows across an Ethernet network. Additionally, File and Object Storage are growing at a much faster rate than block storage. Ethernet is better suited to handling this unstructured data while providing a lower cost of implementation compared to Fibre Channel tape connectivity.

ATTO XstreamCORE ET 8100T is a simple, purpose-built, and cost-effective intelligent bridging solution allowing businesses and enterprises to deploy secured and shared access to tape storage over a 10Gb Ethernet iSCSI network. Powered by a custom chipset and ATTO engineered software, 8100T sets a new standard for tape library connectivity. 8100T allows up to eight iSCSI host logins to connect up to four SAS tape drives with an aggregate throughput of up to 2000 MBps, maximizing drive shareability.

XstreamCORE 8100T features patented ATTO SpeedWrite technology to ensure that tape drives fully utilize the available bandwidth. The bridge is equipped with a dedicated management interface that uses a secure CLI or a user-friendly web-based tool for ease of setup and diagnostics. XstreamCORE 8100T offers a secure digital pathway to integrate data resilience for protecting sensitive business applications and customer data, ensuring workplace collaboration and productivity, and fueling growth.

ATTO Data Acceleration

ATTO Distributed Software Architecture (ADSA) is the heart of the XstreamCORE 8100T. A self-optimizing real-time operating system designed specifically for embedded hardware, ADSA acts as a translator of one protocol to another and integrates advanced protocol, error handling and application requirements into an existing infrastructure. The on- board data acceleration technology features multiple parallel I/O engines with end-end I/O processing and intelligent management of hardware buffer allocation. The ATTO Distributed Software System provides a cooperative, multi-tasking environment complete with a core set of services for our product applications. ADSA architecture is designed to maximize workflow productivity and enhance control over backup and archive platforms.

Designed for Sustainability

Sharing libraries typically requires costly Fibre Channel infrastructure, or the use of servers in front of the tape libraries to enable Ethernet connectivity. Servers require more power and cooling, expensive licenses, maintenance, and take up rack space. ATTO XstreamCORE ET 8100T intelligent bridges provide a simple, low-maintenance connectivity option. Each bridge consumes less than 30 Watts and can easily be embedded in a tape library using standard connections, or a small external chassis can be installed in a standard data center 1U rack. This results in lower power budget requirements for the infrastructure design.
