For Windows computers, Sonnet eGFX Breakaway Box 550 works with any type of PCIe card.

eGFX Breakaway ™ boxes from Sonnet are a family of solutions enabling the connection of a PCIe card to the Thunderbolt ™ 3 connector. The boxes support:

• any Thunderbolt-compatible PCIe card, and are designed specifically for demanding AMD and NVIDIA® graphics cards.
• any Thunderbolt-compatible PCIe card up to full length and up to double width

The EGFX Breakaway Box 550 includes two 8-pin (6 + 2 pin) auxiliary power connectors and supports cards requiring 250W of power allocation (equivalent to 500W of recommended system power). This is more than the requirements of almost any compatible GPU card, except AMD Radeon™ RX Vega 64, Vega Frontier Edition, WX 9100 and overclocked NVIDIA cards with extremely high peak power requirements.

Thunderbolt 3 provides eco-friendly power features that help you save energy when your computer is not in use. The Sonnet eGFX box, like all Thunderbolt devices, turns on when the computer is running. This allows the Breakaway Box to turn off and save power when the computer is turned off, unplugged, or put to sleep.

Additionally, the device still provides power to charge most computers, even when the computer is asleep or turned off.

Thunderbolt 3 Power Delivery (PD) allows you to power and charge notebooks with 100W (Breakaway Box 750 model), which is useful for quickly charging the notebook.
